  4. Hospital & Prison Reform • Dorothea Dix led a reform to treat mentally ill as patients not criminals • States stopped treating debtors as criminals and unusual punishment

  5. C. Temperance Movement • Demon Rum led to beatings, abuse, and break ups of families. • Maine Laws were first laws that banned the sale of alcohol in nine states

Education Reform • Horace Mannwas a reformer that led to improvements to education included: tax support, training, and extended year • Prudence Crandall started the first school for African American girls • Samuel Gridley Howe founded a school for the blind & created system of raised letters for students to read
