  1. Tuesday, October 18th Please take out Homework and complete warm up Did you write down your homework?!?! Warm Up What is the GCF of 98 and 42 If the prime factorization of a number is 2 x 3, what is the number?

  2. Corny Joke of the Day What songs do Planets sing? Nep-Tunes

  3. Schedule for the Week Tuesday: Least Common Multiple Wednesday: (sub) GCF and LCM word problems, *Get study guide Thursday: (field trip) Study guide answers Friday: Review ALERT: MONDAY TEST

  4. Agree or Disagree • The prime factorization of 24 would be 2 x 3 x 4 • 233 is divisible by 4 because the numbers add up to 8 • The factors of 18 include 1,2,3,6,8, and 18 • 63 is divisible by 7 • Ms. Evans is from Minnesota

  5. Homework Answers Show your work and answer of the question I give you on your white board

  6. When is the Test??!?!

  7. Notes from Yesterday

  8. What if we have more than 2 numbers? • Use the slide method! • Do the same steps with three numbers! • Remember to pick a common factor for all 3 numbers! 16, 12 and 24

  9. You Try! a. 24, 32 and 48 b. 120, 100, and 50

  10. Our Mission To find the Least Common Multiple between 2 or more numbers

  11. In your groups…. Two faucets are dripping. One faucet will drip every 4 seconds and the other faucet drips every 9 seconds. If a drop of water falls from both faucets at the same time, how many seconds will it be before you see the faucets drip at the same time again?

  12. Did we find the Factor or multiple?

  13. Least Common Multiple What does Multiple mean? Give an example of a multiple of 4 Give an example of a multiple of 18 What would be the least common multiple?

  14. Question of the Day What should I check first when finding the least common multiple?

  15. What is it? • Least Common Multiple- is the least (smallest) of the common multiples of two or more numbers *When finding the LCM you should always look to see if your largest number is the LCM

  16. There are 2 methods to finding the LCM Method #1 The Listing Method

  17. Steps 1. List the first couple multiples of each number in order 2. If you do not have a common multiple, you need to keep listing multiples until you do. 3. If you do have a common multiple, the smallest one is your LCM

  18. Let’s try together! Find the LCM of 18 and 24 • 18: 36, 54, 72 24: 48, 72 Common Multiples: 72 • The LCM is 72!

  19. You Try! Find the LCM of each set of numbers • 6 and 10 • 3 and 4 • 2 and 7

  20. Method #2 The Slide Method

  21. The “Slide” method- The slide method helps us break numbers down by looking at common factors. It is very helpful for finding LCM

  22. Steps to Slide Method • Begin by looking at your two numbers- identify a common factor • Write the Common factor to the left, outside your “slide” • Divide all numbers by the common factor, and write them below the slide. • Look at your quotients from step 3- do you have any common factors? If so repeat steps 2 and 3 until the quotients have no factors in common- it can take as many steps as you need to get there. • To find the GCF, multiply all the common factors (the numbers to the left outside the slide) • To find the LCM, multiple all the common factors and the numbers on the bottom (all the numbers on the left outside the slide, and underneath the slide- it looks like a large L

  23. What it Looks Like 18 and 24

  24. Let’s try Some Together!

  25. You Try! Complete the 6 problems • Choose any way you wish! • When you are done raise your hand and then help others in your group!

  26. Any Questions?!?!?!?!

  27. Worktime • Complete worksheet • You may choose any method of your choice • Complete in pencil Remember To Show Work!
