  1. “A Call to Holiness” Matthew 21 & 27 John 13 & 17

  2. Palm Sunday is to be a day of joy as we recognize Jesus as King and Lord of all.

  3. Matthew 21:8-11 (ESV) Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” 10And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

  4. 2. Holy Monday should be a day of cleansing and introspection.

  5. Matthew 21:12-14 (ESV) And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 13He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.” 14And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.

  6. 3. Holy Tuesday is a day of thanksgiving as we acknowledge all power and authority resides in Christ; the One Who is able to provide eternal life for all who believe.

  7. Matthew 21:23 (ESV) And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”

  8. 4. Spy Wednesday should remind us that many in the world continue to conspiretogether in order to oppose the cause of Christ.

  9. Matthew 26:14-16 (ESV) Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.

  10. 5. Maundy Thursday calls to remembrance the command of Christ that we are to serve one another.

  11. John 13:14-17 (ESV)If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. 16Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

  12. 6. Good Friday is a day of mourning and darkness in which we commemorate the crucifixion of Christ as the price He paid for the sin of mankind.

  13. Matthew 27:45-51 (ESV)Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. 46And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lemasabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” … 50And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. 51And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.
