  2. Health Science is the second course in the health science pathway. This course builds on the information learned in the Principles of Health Science class. Students MUST have completed Principles of Health Science with a grade of 70% or better.

Health Science Program Professional Communication (9th grade) Principles of Health Science (10th grade) Application Process Required Health Science Hospital Rotations (11th grade) Health Science Classroom based and lab (11th grade) Practicum in Health Science: Job Shadow (12th grade) Practicum in Health Science: CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) (12th grade) Practicum in Health Science: Pharmacy Technician (12th grade) A&P for Allied Health Problems and Solutions (*4th Science credit) (12th grade)

  4. Health Science Tracks Hospital Rotations: Students in this class participate in observations at a local hospital, lab simulations and classroom instruction. Lab – Based: Students in this class participate in lab simulations that teach and reinforce skills needed for entry level employment (non- certified or licensed) and classroom instruction.

  5. The application process will determine which track • the student will follow. • Incomplete applications will not be considered for • the hospital observation track. • Placement will be determined by the final score • after completion of the application process.

  6. Application Process Phase I: 1. Mandatory attendance at general information meeting by student and parent/guardian (Attendance verified by turning in part 1 of the application)

  7. Phase II 1. Application a. Applications will be available only at the meetings. b. Part 1 of the application must be completed and submitted prior to leaving the meeting.

  8. 2. Essay a. Completed and submitted no later than 4:00 pm Friday, February 28, 2014 b. Place in a sealed envelope c. Hand deliver or mail to: ATC Health Science Department 1504 Long Road Denton, Texas 76207 Attn: Carrie Sisco

  9. Teacher Recommendations (2) a. One from a Math or Science Teacher b. One teacher of choice (excluding the Principles of Health Science Teacher)

  10. Directions for submitting teacher • recommendations are included in your • application packet. • Teacher Recommendations are due no later • than 4:00 pm on Friday, February 28, 2014.

  11. Entrance Exam a. Every applicant must take the entrance exam to complete the application process. b. Exam is a one attempt test only c. Exam cannot be modified. Accommodations are available according to current ARD/504 paperwork.

  12. d. Exams will be administered on the home campus by the Principles of Health Science teacher. ALL testing arrangements must be made in advance with the home campus Principles of Health Science teacher.

  13. Phase III: Notification of Student Placement in May 2014 1. Notification letters will be sent to student and parent/guardian 2. Notification will be sent to the student’s counselor 3. Date and notification is subject to change pending DISD registration process.

  14. Phase IV: Course Fees 1. Must be paid by the 2Nd week of the 2014-2015 school year. 2. Contact the ATC Bookkeeper in regards to payment

  15. Phase V: Completion of Specific Course Requirements by designated due dates. Examples (not limited to): Hospital RotationLab –Based Scrubs Scrubs White shoes White shoes Liability Insurance lab fees TB test Flu shot Drug Screen HIPAA exam Hospital orientation
