  2. Course Selection Welcome to the Sophomore Course Selection Process. The sophomore year is one in which careful planning must be done to ensure all requirements for your graduation are met. There are many important decisions to be made. It is imperative that you carefully follow the instructions.

  3. CLASS STANDING Students are classified by the number of academic credits they have earned at the beginning of each year. See page 7 in the Planning Guide for KISD students. Freshman Entering High School in the Fall of 2007 GradeCredit 9 0-5 10 5 ½ -11 ½ 11 12-18 ½ 12 19-above

  4. Distinguished Achievement PlanDAP These additional measures are listed on page 7 of the Planning Guide for KISD students. A score of 3 or above on AP Exams (up to 4 exams) A score on the PSAT that qualifies a student for National Merit recognition (limit of 1) A grade of 3.0 or higher on HCC Dual Credit and/or Advanced Technical Credit Classes ( a maximum of 2) (Any Combination of 4)

  15. Social Studies All Sophomores will take World History. Choose one of the following: 0301 World History 0302 World History Pre-AP* 0304 World History Pre-AP/GT* • 0305 AP World History* ( * requires teacher signature)

  16. Foreign Language If you haven’t already done so, it is strongly recommend to start your foreign language during your Sophomore year. Minimum of two years of the same foreign language is required for graduation. Choose from the following: French Japanese German American Sign Language Spanish Chinese

  17. PhysicalEducation All students must have 1 year of Physical Education to meet graduation requirements Choose from the following: Team Sports, Individual Sports, Foundations, There are alternate ways to receive PE credit such as off-campus PE, band, athletics , cheerleading, color guard and Cougar Stars. The following require coach’s signature: Football, Wrestling, Soccer, Golf, Swimming, Track, Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball, Cross Country, Cheerleading, Drill Team, Tennis, Softball.

  18. Health All students are required to take one semester of Health to meet graduation requirements. 0505 Health (If you are planning on being a part of the Health Careers program at Miller Career Center, you should take HST I in place of Health. HST I will give you the health credit plus an additional ½ credit toward your electives.)

  19. Speech Communications Applications is the ONLY course that fulfills this graduation requirement. 1515 Comm App

  20. Fine Art All students must have one full year of the same Fine Art. These classes can be used as elective credit after completion of the required fine art credit. Choose from the following: Band, Orchestra, Choir, Art, Theatre Arts, Tech Theatre, Dance, Color Guard, Music History (Some courses may require teacher signature)

  21. Technology Course(Computer Classes) Students are no longer required to take a technology class but are highly encouraged to use a technology class as an elective choice.

  22. Electives The remainder of the courses on the Course Request Worksheet may be used as electives. Some are one semester, one year, and some require prerequisite and/or teacher approval. Some require an application and some require more than one period. Please refer to the course catalogue for course descriptions.

  23. Alternate Selections Choose three alternate electives in case a course you have chosen is not offered.

  24. Miller Career Center Looking ahead in the spring of your sophomore year you have the opportunity to apply for classes at Miller. If you plan on doing HST 2 at Miller, you must do HST 1 at CRHS. For more information refer to the course catalogue and/or brochures in the counselor’s office.

  25. Completed Course Selection Card Your card must have sections A, B, C, D, & E Completed. Please write neatly. Please choose courses wisely, as staff is hired based on your course selections. Course selection cards are due to your English teacher no later than February 19th. (Be sure to include you alternate selections)
