  2. AP Lang Exam • Multiple-choice questions • test skills in analyzing the rhetoric of prose passages. • Essays • demonstrate the skills students have learned in the course.

  3. AP Lang Exam • The exam consists of 60 minutes for multiple-choice questions, a 15-minute reading period to read the sources for the synthesis essay and plan a response, and 120 minutes for essay questions.

  4. AP Lang Exam • Performance on the free-response section (essays) of the exam counts for 55% of the total score • Performance on the multiple-choice section counts for 45% of the total score.

  5. AP Lang Exam Multiple Choice • Multiple-choice scores are based on the number of questions answered correctly. • Points are not deducted for incorrect answers • No points are awarded for unanswered questions. • Because points are not deducted for incorrect answers, you should answer all multiple-choice questions. • On any questions you do not know the answer to, eliminate as many choices as you can, and then select the best answer among the remaining choices.

  7. AP Lang Purpose • Introduce you to the analytical and argumentative writing you will do in college • This writing is based on reading as well as on personal experience and observation

  8. AP Lang Purpose • To enable you to read and understand complex texts • To enable you to write prose of sufficient richness and complexity to communicate effectively with mature readers

AP Lang Purpose • In addition, the informed use of research materials and the ability to synthesize varied sources (to evaluate, use and cite sources) are integral parts of the AP English Language and Composition course. • You should move past writing for the uncritical citation of sources and, instead, begin evaluating the legitimacy and purpose of sources used
