  2. Duke Kahanamoku – King of Surfing

  3. Dick Dale • He is a surf rock guitarist, known as "The King Of The Surf Guitar". • He experimented with reverberation and made use of custom made Fender amplifiers, including the first ever 100 watt amp.

  4. The Beach Boys • A California rock band. • Formed in 1961 the group gained popularity for its close vocal harmonies and lyrics • They reflected the California youth culture of cars and surfing

  5. Jan and Dean • Were a rock and roll duo, popular from the late 1950s through the mid 1960s, consisting of Jan Berry and Dean Torrence • Although Jan & Dean pre-dated The Beach Boys, they became most famously associated with the vocal "surf music" craze inspired by The Beach Boys.

California highways and byways led to an automobile subculture • The major automakers began increasing performance • It was no longer necessary to put a Cadillac engine in a Ford roadster to be fast. • It was now possible to buy a Pontiac GTO that outperformed just about any Hot Rod • Hot Rods and drag races become part of the California teenage lifestyle
