  1. Subject – Verb Agreement

  2. A verb must agree with its subject in number and person.

  3. If the subject is singular, then the verb should be singular.

  4. Chris uses his imagination.

  5. Lauren likes the music of the 1970’s.

  6. Not:Chris use his imagination.

  7. Not: Lauren like the music of the 1970’s.

  8. If a subject is plural, then the verb should be plural.

  9. The girls are crazy about Nsync.

  10. The football players watch the cheerleaders as they practice.

  11. Not: The girls is crazy about Nsync.

  12. Not: The football players watches the cheerleaders as they practice.

  13. Caution: Do not mistake a word in the prepositional phrase for the subject of a sentence.
