  1. Mrs. Hawkins Physical Science Rm 226

  2. Physical Science or Chemistry Responsibility Students, (not parents)are responsible for their education and maintaining the pace of the course. This will most likely require independent study outside of the classroom, including homework and review of the material (I recommend 15 minutes every night/Physical Science; 30 minutes/Chemistry), to gain a full understanding of the content.

  3. Expectations • BE ON TIME!! It is RUDE to be late. • Door will close when tardy bell rings and you will report to ISS • Be on task, listen and attempt all activities without complaining. • Treat everyone with courtesy and respect. • All cell phones will be placed in a box as you enter the room. They will be returned at the end of class. • I will send you out to ISS if you are not dressed properly • Stay in authorized areas and remain seated unless you have permission to get up. • You must be dismissed from class by the teacher so everyone must be in their seat when the bell rings.

  4. Consequences for Inappropriate Behavior 1. Warning -Teacher/student conference after class – name goes on board 2. Teacher/parent conference or phone call – check by name 3. Discipline referral - 2 checks by name 4. In-school suspension – 3 checks by name Referral is automatic for severe disruptions (refusal to follow teacher’s instructions, fighting, vandalism, weapons, and disrespectful behavior that interrupts class functioning and student learning). I hold the right to skip steps according to the student’s behavior.

  5. ABSENCES All work missed is to be completed and turned in within 3 school days (District Policy) of return. After the 3rd day missed assignments will receive a PERMANENT zero. Privilege Passes You will receive 3 passes/9 weeks. You must have one to leave the room. Please plan to use the restroom between classes. Using these passes are at the discretion of the teacher. If you choose not to use them, you can turn them in at the end of 9 weeks. They are worth 10 points each on a daily/homework or quiz grade.

  6. Emergency Procedures • Evacuation procedures: Exit classroom to the left and move out of double doors to your left on to grass. • Intruder procedures

  7. Materials • A 1- inch binder • Paper • Book cover • Pencils and/or pens (blue or black) • I have a few calculators but you will need one of your own to do homework (Needs to have square root capability)

  8. Grading Policy:Grades will follow the GCSD wide science grading policy. Major Assessments-30% • This includes unit tests, large projects, benchmark tests, etc. You will have 2-3 tests for each 9 weeks Labs-30% This includes all work associated with lab activities. Daily Assignments-25% This includes homework, class work, outlines, notes, etc. Quizzes-15% 2-3 quizzes a week. SC EOC test will be given in May at the end of this course and counts 20% of your grade – 2 parts

  9. Papers with no name will be placed in the “no-name” folder and will only receive half credit IF they are claimed and turned in. ****( 3 week-grace period)**** If a student is caught copying/cheating from another student’s paper BOTH students will get a zero Grades can be viewed on the Power School website. Projects will receive a 10 point deduction for each day that it is late. Not accepted after 5 days and will be recorded as a zero.

  10. Lab Safety: Science demands hands-on experiences to learn; therefore, it is necessary for safety in the lab to be a priority. Students will be taught lab safety procedures and will be held responsible for their behavior in lab situations. Misuse of the lab equipment in anyway will result in a zero. Students are required to wear closed toed shoes and any person with long hair will be required to have it pulled back. Students are also required to wear safety eye protection and aprons during labs and if they are not compliant they will be removed from the lab and receive a zero. I take the safety of every person extremely seriously.

  11. MISCELLANEOUS: • Notebooks are turned in at the end of each 9 weeks and count as a test grade so please keep separate from other subjects. • Textbooks will be distributed by the school. You MUST have a book cover to receive a book. The student is responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged textbooks. These materials are to be with the student everyday as they enter the classroom. • Throughout the year students will also be responsible for providing materials for class projects and assignments. Advance notice will be provided for these occasions. • If you miss class because of being sent to ISS, you are STILL responsible for turning in your homework to Ms. McClellan and taking any quiz or test.
