By supporting partnerships around trade and investment, volunteerism, philanthropy, and innovation, the Alliance provides a platform for capacity-building and a forum for collaboration across sectors to scale efforts to improve lives in countries of origin. Twenty Tunisians joined over 200 forum participants, including Arab-American investors and U.S. businesses leaders across three sectors (information and communications technology, tourism, and franchising) based on creating revenue-generating deals that will benefit both Americans and Tunisians by fostering job creation and economic opportunity. S/GPI | IdEA

  9. Champions of Change On January 30th, the White House honored 14 leaders in American Diaspora communities with roots in the Horn of Africa as Champions of Change. These leaders are helping to build stronger neighborhoods in communities across the country, and are working to mobilize networks across borders to address global challenges. S/GPI | IdEA

What is the GDF? • U.S. Secretary of State’s initiative to engage diaspora and diaspora-focused organizations • The Global Diaspora Forum is an annual celebration of America’s diaspora communities. • The gathering challenges diaspora communities to create new partnerships with the private sector, civil society, and public institutions in order to make their engagements with their countries of origin or heritage effective, scalable, and sustainable.   13. How GDF is Organized GDF is hosted by: • U.S. Department of State • U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with: • Migration Policy Institute (MPI) and powered by: • International diaspora Engagement Alliance (IdEA) S/GPI | GLOBAL DIASPORA FORUM

How GDF is Organized • The Forum will bring together over 500 diaspora leaders from across the world to acknowledge the work diaspora communities are doing to facilitate learning and to forge partnerships with the public and private sectors. • This year, the Forum will include two days of interactive panels, workshops, inspirational keynotes, networking opportunities, and announcements of public and private sector commitments.   15. This Year’s Theme • The theme for the 2012 GDF is “Moving Forward by Giving Back.” • The Forum will focus on how new technology can empower and increase diaspora philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, volunteerism, and innovation. S/GPI | GLOBAL DIASPORA FORUM
