  1. It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. (Ephesians 4:11-16)

  2. What Maturity is Not: • Fickleness: • Children are “tossed back and forth by the waves”. • Children are like little chameleons • Children are not concerned about truth and error; they are only concerned about being liked. • Children are constantly changing their interests.

  3. Gullibility: • What MaturityIs: • Using your talents for God’s glory. • Speaking the Truth in Love. • Living an Increasingly Christ-Controlled Life. • You see this in Christians when: • A Loving welcome is extended to all whether they are Christians or not.

  4. There is an uncompromisingyet joyful love of the truth of God’s Word. • There is a spirit of service. • There is a deep and heartfelt worship of the Lord because they see Him (rather than their desires) as the center of life. • They have learned to listen with their eyes and with their hearts. • They are eager to learn.

  5. They are not threatened by correction from others because they long to grow in maturity. ---- • First, we will grow in maturity only by spending time with the Lord. • Second, study those who appear to be more mature in the faith. • Third, expand your spiritual ability.
