  2. Start • North Korea launched surprise attack in June 1950 • South Korea’s Capital – Seoul – fell in 4 days

  3. United Nation Responds • United Nations forces stop the attack briefly • North Korea pushes the U.N. forces to edge of South Korea

  4. Inchon • U.S. troops become involved heavily and under General MacArthur make a daring landing in Inchon

  5. Surprise! • Surprise tactic works and the North Koreans are pushed back quickly

  6. Chinese/Soviet Involvement • Americans were warned to stay away from the Yalu region, or risk an all out war with China and the Soviet Union

  7. MacArthur • MacArthur believed the Chinese were bluffing and kept going- bringing the Chinese and Soviets into the war….oops!

  8. You’re outta here! • Truman fired MacArthur for not listening and for sending a letter to a Congress- man criticizing Truman’s decision making abilities.

  9. End • After a see-saw battle, the war finally ended in July 1953 at the 38th Parallel and a more than 2 mile demilitarized zone.
