  2. Imagine that you have lots of beads numbered 0 to 9 1 2 3 0 4 9 5 6 8 7

  3. Start with any two beads 1 3

  4. To determine the next bead, add the value of the two previous beads and record only the units digit of their sum. 1 3 4 7 A sequence becomes a bracelet when the ending two beads are the same as the starting two beads and in the same order.

  6. 7 1 8 9 4 7 3 1 6 3 2 9

  7. Record some sequences and see what happens. What questions can you generate and answer?

Questions to Explore • How many different possible pairs of numbers can you use to start? • What is the shortest bracelet you have found? • What is the longest bracelet you have found? • What odd and even number patterns are there in all your bracelets? • If you start with two beads with different numbers, but put the beads in the opposite order, do you get the same bracelets? • How many different bracelets are there?
