  10. The Whitecourt Comprehensive Family Violence Initiative recognizes that in Whitecourt there is • the need to work proactively rather than reactively • a need to offer services and/or treatment to both the victim(s) and the offender • a need to increase awareness about family violence issues in this community so that the community can take a stand against family violence • a lack of low income housing and transportation available for women who wish to leave abusive situations • because of underfunding and understaffing, a lack of specialized police services to deal with family violence issues

  11. We are asking Town Councilors to • support the initiatives put forth by the stakeholders of the Whitecourt Initiative • take a public stand against family violence and recognize that family violence is a community issue that is everybody’s business • increase funding for low income housing and transportation so that women and children will be able to afford housing when leaving a violent relationship • increase funding to the RCMP so there is more police time available • for educational purposes • to deal with family violence issues.
