  5. Expanding the Empire • Began as several warring tribes • United under Genghis Khan in 1206 • Expanded through fear and sex • Destroyed cities • Intermarried with the conquered

  6. Rulers • Genghis Khan – “Universal Ruler” • Hulegu Khan – grandson of Genghis; sacked Baghdad and hated Islam. • Kublai Khan – grandson of Genghis; completed conquest of China and established the Yuan Dynasty.
