  1. How to Whiten Your Teeth the Natural Way

  2. Tooth Enamel • As a person grows old, teeth become discolored. Its color may turn to yellow, beige or brown. This happens due to stains that develop on both the enamel (the surface of teeth) and the deeper structure of the teeth. • Tooth enamel is the white and hard surface of your teeth. Underneath it is the dentin, a pale brown substance which can become more visible as the enamel gets thinner — a very common happening for many adults. • Another reason for having thin enamel is dental erosion, which results from chronic loss of dental hard tissue that is chemically etched away from the tooth surface by acid. • In addition to the mentioned factors, intake of foods that promote erosion and or staining, genetics, and aging are also included. All of these may also lead to the risk of having gum diseases.

  3. While it is very unrealistic to expect that your teeth will remain white and shiny as you age or grow older, many factors that accelerate the rate of teeth discoloration can be avoided. Here are some home remedies that you can use to whiten your teeth the natural way.

  4. Brush your Teeth After Eating or Drinking • This tip may take a lot of persistence and can even be difficult for some, depending on where you are at the time of eating like at school or at work. • You can also prevent your teeth from getting that yellowish color by avoiding the following: eating the unhealthy diet, cigarette smoking, drinking too much soda or coffee, and so much more. Do use a straw if you regularly drink staining beverages and try to cut back. It's best to drink a lot of plain water eating or drinking to lessen the negative effects of the things that should be avoided.

  5. Use Citrus Fruits • Citrus fruits like lemon and orange have several beneficial acids; they also do the trick for whitening teeth. They are overall good for human's health. They help the digestive system due to regulating levels of stomach acid. • Use the orange or lemon peel on your teeth and don't forget to always rinse your mouth afterward to be on the safe side.

  6. Coconut Oil Pulling • A lot of people recommend the use of coconut oil because it makes their teeth whiter and healthier once put to their teeth after brushing. • You just need to add a few drops to your toothbrush and brush it on, or put a spoonful of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it between your teeth for about five to 20 minutes. You can also use a clean washcloth and rub it on the teeth.

  7. Check this Out! • To conclude, teeth become less white because of several factors: the erosion of the surface of teeth, thinning enamel, aging, poor diet, smoking among other things. To bring its color back naturally, you should eat healthy foods, regularly brush and floss the teeth, use coconut oil and citrus fruits. You can also go visit your dentist to whiten your teeth and ask for recommendations on how to keep your teeth white and healthy. • Brought to you by Yonge & St. Clair Dental Smile Centre.
