It began mainly due to the death of the original “New World” slaves (Native Americans) due to European diseases How many slaves were brought to England’s American colonies between 1650-1860? .5 Million In what role were the first Africans who came to English colonies brought? They were brought first as indentured servants What was the route called that brought Africans to the Americas? Why do you think so many people died before they arrived in the Americas? It was called the Middle Passage Many people died because of the conditions they were kept in. Disease, lack of food and water, cramped conditions
