  2. Purpose of AP Human Geography course: • Introduce systematic study of processes and patterns that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface; • Social organization and resulting environmental impacts/consequences; • Geographic tools and data-collection methods

  3. Students will be able to . Know how to use and think about maps and geospatial data sets • How Earth’s surface effects/affects humans • Influence human history and reflect Earth (science)

  4. Students will be able to . Understand and interpret the implications of associations among phenomena in places • Culture = Politics (boundaries) + Values (religion, foods, architecture, etc.) + Economics (development)

  5. Students will be able to . Recognize and interpret at difference scales the relationships among patterns and processes • Local  National  Regional  Global • Local: towns, neighborhoods • National: country • Regional: region/area • Global: planet EARTH

  6. Students will be able to . Define regions and evaluate the regionalization process • Not just identification! • How regions work together or “antagonize” • Regional history and development • Characteristics of humans on Earth

  7. Students will be able to . Characterize and analyze changing interconnections among places • Influences from past  present • Influences from region region • How / Why changes occur

  8. KEY CONCEPT • Human Geography is all about… RELATIONSHIPS • Relationships among people and places, regional relations, and global interactions
