  1. CSMM working group First meeting CERN, Feb 12-13, 2004

  2. Questions • Shall we meet the June 04 mandate dead line ? • What is the geographical scope of the WG ? • Is the group membership adequate ? • First list of topics to be addressed ? • What about resource reservation model ? • What about H323 numbering scheme ? • CERN, DESY, FNAL present practices ? • What to do next ? Christian Helft, LAL-IN2P3-CNRS CSMM Working Group Meeting 0

  3. Shall we meet the June 04 mandate dead line ? • We feel that we should produce a timely report, even if it’s a partial one. • Videoconferencing and audio-conferencing should definitely be covered, but we’ll postpone streaming, document sharing, web-assisted audioconferencing Christian Helft, LAL-IN2P3-CNRS CSMM Working Group Meeting 0

  4. What is the geographical scope of the WG ? • Definitely focused on HEP, world-wide Christian Helft, LAL-IN2P3-CNRS CSMM Working Group Meeting 0

  5. Is the group membership adequate ? • We miss people from Italy • Should we add more people from the US ? • Ask Mick Draper (CERN), Alan Flavell (UK), Kors Bos (Nikhef) to join ? • Further suggestions or comments from HTASC ? Christian Helft, LAL-IN2P3-CNRS CSMM Working Group Meeting 0

  6. What about resource reservation model ? • Using Esnet systems (DCS and now ECS) for room scheduling seems to fulfill DESY’s needs in that matter • That doesn’t preclude to explore the problem of interaction with other reservation systems (ie CRBS, VRVS, VACS) Christian Helft, LAL-IN2P3-CNRS CSMM Working Group Meeting 0

  7. What about H323 numbering scheme ? • At this time, we need to change E164 numbers in the end systems when we switch from EsNet world to other worlds • This problem has to be sorted out with Esnet people in the near future Christian Helft, LAL-IN2P3-CNRS CSMM Working Group Meeting 0

  8. CERN, DESY, FNAL present practices ? • One recurrent theme : lack of manpower, although the number of equipments grows each day • No long term plans besides extending the number of rooms Christian Helft, LAL-IN2P3-CNRS CSMM Working Group Meeting 0

  9. Next list of topics to be addressed ? • Set up the WG web site (CERN Agenda ?) • Collect numbers on users satisfaction/complaints/ wishes on existing systems (via a Web survey ?, based on user lists that can be found in reservation systems) (ref to Alan Silvermann survey) • Plan sessions on VRVS, Access Grid • Explore the (unsolved) problem of GK cascading Christian Helft, LAL-IN2P3-CNRS CSMM Working Group Meeting 0

  10. Joint effort with RTAG? • The working group noted that an RTAG on collaborative tools has just been initiated with a rather similar mandate as CSMMWG (but of course focused on the LCG perspective) • What should we do ? • Ignore it • Work in parallel and compare the results • Share the workload and produce • A joint report • Two different reports Christian Helft, LAL-IN2P3-CNRS CSMM Working Group Meeting 0
