This island is jam-packed with ancient monuments called moai that were built by the Rapa Nui people. Easter Island has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Today the island is greatly appreciated for shaping the country’s history and is an important hub for culture, artifacts, and tourism. • Visit this beautiful island with your family without spending a fortune. Here are some incredible facts about Easter Island you haven’t heard before: • Easter Island was named by Dutch Admir5al- Jacob Roggeveen –the first European to land on this island. He named it as PaaschEyland in Dutch or the Easter Island. However, there’s a mystery to its name, and it is believed that its first name was- TePito O TeHenua or the Worlds Navel.

Chile is the nearest country and is a part of Chile since its annexation in 1888. • Easter Island can only be accessed by taking a flight from Santiago airport to Chile which is a five hours journey. • Easter Island is believed to be inhabited from 1500 years by HotuMatu’a and his people. • Around 1877 there were only 111 inhabitants on this island. • The island is home to around 1000 monuments and statues made up of tuff- a solidified volcanic ash that can be traced back to the island’s RanoRaraku volcano crater. The natives of this island have crafted and carved huge stone moai sculptures that reflect their ancestors.
