  1. Home Office Engineering: How to turn it to a productive workplace After finishing your chosen field of study, be it accounting, nursing or engineering, you are expected to work in a corporation and be a regular worker just like everyone else. But based on a recent study, employees who work from home are more productive compared to those who work in offices. Some employees believe working in a quiet environment helps their productivity. When you work from home there is a freedom to create the space you need to get work done. You can control almost all the features of your work environment, unlike in a regular office, where all you have is your desk to design. Here are some of the best ideas from personal experts on how you can turn your home office into a productive workplace as an engineer. Be Clever like a Mouse Observe the whole house and find the most peaceful area of them all. some people might want some background noise to be able to work, while others find any sound like a barking dog, playing children, car engines or even calming chimes extremely disturbing. A busy room is the worst place to work. Most people are more efficient in a quiet, distraction-free space. Be clever like a mouse that doesn’t want to be disturbed. A home office should be far enough from common distractions like main door of the house,, televisions, the play area and the kitchen. If you don’t have an extra room, any vacant area where you can put a desk will do. Soundproof the Room If you are going to do it DIY, basic soundproofing includes sealing off holes in the room. Apply fiber insulation (or “egg cartons”) to walls. Soundproof air vents, doors, and windows. Soundproofing can help you make an area perfect for extreme concentration. You can search the internet for different DIY ideas on how you can soundproof your home office. Supplies Inventory As a home office engineer, you don’t have subordinates you can lean on for emergency office and work supplies. Your inventory of basic tools like drafting equipment, blueprint storage, art equipment, surveying equipment, field books, folders, etc. should always be monitored and refreshed when needed. If you do not apply at least a quarter of your inventory budget to your basic materials, it will cause an easily avoidable hassle. Declutter Your Desk If you want to makeover your existing home office, the first thing you need to do is clean your desk. It should be a free area almost all the time after every project. Those extra papers and pens should be put in a drawer. Used folders should be placed in a filing area. Separate folders for completed tasks, contracts for review, existing contracts, incoming mail, outgoing mail, supplier documents, and customer documents are a must. This will make your hard copy back-up files neat and clean all the time. Misplacement of important documents is a no-no, especially in the field of engineering.

  2. Have a Three-level Rolling Kitchen Cart This may sound crazy but very helpful. Yes, you are just ten steps apart from the pantry so you can go there anytime. But you know if you are a person who loves to eat snacks and drink coffee or tea all the time, then you’ll have everything you need without getting up to go to the kitchen Choose a cart that is below your chest level when you sit. Use the first level for beverages, the second level for cookies, brownies, chocolates and candies, and the third for chips. This will keep you from reaching from the unhealthy stuff too often! Clean the Entire House If you feel you can work better with a pleasant workplace, make sure your whole house can offer the same. Spend a couple of minutes decluttering each are of the house. Simply tidying up pantry supplies and fridge goodies is a good way of getting something productive done while you’re taking a break from work. Vacuuming the whole house if you want some sweat to come out is also a great idea. Never take too much advantage of having the chance to work from home. Avoid stagnant routines like this one: wake up, eat, take a bath, work, eat, work, sleep, then restart. Doing some household chores is a good physical activity that can help your blood to circulate properly, especially in the brain. Take a Meaningful Break When we talk about taking a break, it means doing something unrelated to work for a moment. Therefore we tend to use Facebook or Instagram even during the shortest break. Stop doing that and instead treat your break as your time to recharge a bit. Drink tea or coffee, read useful or inspirational articles, or take some time to close your eyes and clear your mind. Nature is Your Friend Bring in some green plants. Having indoor plants is a great way to add a pinch of freshness to your workspace. If you need some visual variety when your eyes need a break from the screen, just look at the plants decorating your workstation. Count the leaves while drinking tea or coffee as a way of giving your mind a quick break. Face your desk in front of the window where you can get an ample amount of sunlight together with your plant buddies. Invest with High-Quality Air Purifier and Essential Oils Ocean breeze, green tea, lavender, and jasmine are essential oils that can give you all sorts of awesome natural boosts. Soft and wafting scents can soothe the usual stress, resulting in the increased productivity of the mind and body. It is you who chooses your career. Be sure to also make the most of your available resources, and stay persistent in achieving your goals. It’s your choice to work in a regular office or work from home and build your own workstation. What is important is that you are happy in all that you doing.
