Scope and purpose • Provision and maintenance of a terminology collection in FAO’s fields of activities and in its official languages with a view to ensure linguistic consistency and give support to: • Linguists (translators, interpreters, editors, etc.) • FAO Technical divisions (writers, researchers, etc.) • General public I. Source of information • FAOTERM was built over the years through: • Analysis and extraction made on FAO technical documentation • Proposals made by linguists and domain experts • Integration of existing terminology collections in relevant areas of work • Cooperation projects for building the language equivalents, in particular in Arabic and Chinese I. Main data management issues • Ensure immediate and dynamic creation and availability of new concepts in all languages • Ensure maintenance and update of existing concepts • Enhance linguistic validation through the incorporation of all users in the workflow • Ensure interoperability with existing systems I.
