  1. The Guide to Ureteric Stones and their Removal Surgery Ureteric stones are mineral wastes that form in the ureter, causing intense pain, discomfort, and malaise. While urinating, a patient affected with ureteric stones generally finds difficulty, irritation, and a burning sensation. The factors causing this condition may include improper diet, badly maintained body weight, previous medical conditions, and the use of certain medications. The total of the urinary tract is susceptible to ureteric stones from the kidneys to the bladder. Though minute stones can be cured with medication and passed through urine, larger ones require surgical or non-surgical procedures. The extensive procedure carried out to remove decent-sized ureteric stones is Ureteric Stone Surgery in Delhi which is performed at Delhi Urology Hospital by the famous urology surgeon, Dr. Niren Rao. Ureteric Stone

  2. Ideal candidates for the surgery: Not all ureteric stones need surgery. The small stones can be removed with the intake of correct medicine and proper water intake. Surgery is needed if: •The size of the stone is bigger than 8mm. •Medications given for an adequate interval of time have not helped in stone removal. •Stone is causing swelling (hydronephrosis), which may lead to loss of kidney function. •A badly affected stone causes pain that requires multiple oral and injectable analgesics. •A ureteric stone has led to infection and pus formation in the kidney leading to high fever and flank pain. •A ureteric stone causes bleeding in the urine (haematuria). Preparations to be done before surgery: Ureteric stones can present either with or without symptoms. The symptomatic presentation is severe, agonizing flank pain on the side of the stone and extending towards the groin. If the stone is near the bladder, it also results in urinary frequency and urgency. The condition may also be associated with visible blood in the urine, infection, or kidney failure. The diagnosis of a stone is made by imaging tests, and the best available is a CT scan of the abdomen in combination with a plain abdominal x-ray. This can also prevent other causes of severe abdominal pain, which require an alternate course of management. Patients with ureteric stones should undergo a CT scan. Scanning shows the exact location and size of the stone and swelling in the kidney. During the surgery, the doctor uses an endoscope, a thin and adjustable tube with a camera at the end, to reach the bladder through the urethra. The endoscope moves to the area of urine storage in the kidney. During the process, it identifies the stones and fragments them, and removes them with special forceps. Kidney stones up to the size of 5 cm can be cured by this method. If

  3. stones are present in both kidneys, they can be treated at the same time. The stones can be removed well by this method. At the end of the procedure, a DJ stent is placed from the bladder into the kidney. The stent aids in decreasing swelling in the kidney and reduces the risk of small stone fragments blocking the ureter and causing pain. Once a complete recovery from anesthesia happens, patients are given a soft diet. Because of the urinary catheter and DJ stent, slight discomfort is expected on the day of surgery. Patients can go home after 24 hours of removal of the catheter. At Delhi Urology Hospital, a stone removal hospital in Delhi the surgery is performed using advanced protocols by an expert surgeon. After-care instructions: •The patient will be advised to be on bed rest for 24 hours after receiving spinal anesthesia. •Drink plenty of water so that urine output per day can be maintained. •Salt intake and animal protein should be reduced. •Physical activities such as walking should be encouraged. The advantages of this surgery: •There is also low bleeding, and the renal tissue is safe. •This procedure produces a better removal of stones. •Patients do not need to stay in the hospital for more than one day. •The recovery period is short. •Less complication. •Both sides can be treated together. •Patients experience less post-operative pain. •It can be performed on a short day. Tips to prevent the formation of Ureteric stones: •Increase fluid intake: The ideal way to prevent stones is to drink more water, which dilutes your urine. The intake of fluids must be increased to 10 standard cups or 250ml in 24 hours. Classic fluid choices include water, citrus juices, and carbonated mineral water beverages. An excellent degree

  4. of success is that the color of the urine should be clear or a very pale yellow. The fluid should be low in sugar and calories. •Decrease salt intake: The goal is to reduce added salt in the diet. The human body deliberately regulates its salt levels. In other words, the more salt your kidneys filter, the more calcium forms in the urine. Excess calcium in the urine can also result in new stone formation by binding with other minerals. •Maintain calcium intake: Limiting calcium intake can prevent kidney stones. Unless there is a specific abnormality detected through blood tests, calcium stones are not normally due to a calcium excess in the body.
