  3. This invention allowed Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi to unite all of China in 221 B.C. • This is the trigger mechanism to a Chinese Crossbow – made of Bronze – and was standardized – so its parts could be replaced when worn or broken.

  4. This Chinese Invention made keeping “the books” in your family business much easier! • This is called the Abacus – it was invented in Han China about 100 A.D. and can be used much like a calculator today.

  5. Without this it would be hard to keep our appointments, get to school on time, or even change classes! • The Mechanical Clock – invented in the 8th century during the Tang Dynasty in China.

  6. This invention helps us celebrate holidays and special occasions. • Fireworks! Invented during the Song Dynasty at first as a food additive – it quickly became a favorite crown entertainer for stage pyrotechnics.

  7. This invention aided in Communication over long distances • The Kite! Not just a childhood pastime. Kites were used by Chinese armies to communicate over long distances. Kites are also man made controlled flight – a first step in making a flying machine!

  8. This invention likely keeps many of you busy after dinner! Porcelain – A.K.A. china The first true porcelain was invented during the Tang Dynasty. It was slowly perfected over 1000 years. It became a highly prized luxury item that we still use today, more commonly called “dishes.”

  9. This invention helps define the uniqueness of your culture • Music! Obviously not only a Chinese invention, music in China was unique not only for the types of instruments and the sounds they play but also because China had the an Imperial Music Bureau to help organize “official” court and military “tunes.” This shows that the Chinese Government knew how powerful music could be to motivate “the People” and make them happy.
