  4. Cost • The cost of the F-105 Thunderchief, a popular fighter jet, was $2,136,668 • The cost of the Bell UH-1P, a popular attack helicopter, was $273,000

  5. Cost of Air Weapons • The United States spent about $900,000,000,000 total on the Vietnam War • About half of the $900 billion was spent on planes, helicopters, aircraft ammunition, and bombs

  6. Helicopter Medical Evacuation • Medical Evacuation Helicopters (MEDEVAC) flew about 500,000 missions • Over 900,000 soldiers were airlifted out of a war zone by helicopters

  7. Flight Time • Over 12,000 helicopters were sent into missions • UH-1’s got 9,713,762 hours of flight time between October 1966 and early 1973 • UH-1G’s got 1,110,716 hours of flight time in the Vietnam War

  8. Conclusion • I think that the U.S. Air Support played a big role in the Vietnam War by aiding injured troops, taking out enemy bases from above, bringing the troops supplies, and transporting troops and ammunition. The new air tactics learned in the Vietnam War were used throughout the rest of the Twentieth Century and are still used today.
