  3. Mumbai Citizens Charter ONCE A WORLD CLASS CITY, Mumbai is near the bottom of the list today as a city to live, work and invest in. Severe economic decline afflicts the city and its people. This must change. The city must offer a good quality of life to all who live and work here, especially the disadvantaged. Its governance must be open, responsive and clean. Only then will we attract the minds and people we need to become globally competitive and A GREAT CITY ONCE MORE.

  4. Mumbai Citizens Charter WE, MEMBERS OF “AGNI,” a network of citizen organizations in Mumbai with memberships that total several lakh voters, believe that MPs must lead the revival of Mumbai. Therefore, we urge you and all candidates to hold fast to a high personal code and an MP’s programme of dynamic action.

  5. What do we want? The 6 elected MP’s from Mumbai to form a Mumbai Pressure Group in Delhi, regardless of their parties, to sell elements of The Charter

City Economy & Jobs LET MUMBAI BE AN ECONOMIC POWERHOUSE AGAIN • International regional centre for commerce, financial services and maritime affairs • Special media and entertainment zone • Revival of Thane-Belapur Industrial belt • Urban employment programs e.g. Suvarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana • Hospitality/tourism, printing, software and IT • Specialised higher education and medical services centre

Housing • Plans to build 11 Lakh housing units for slum rehabilitation • Land under Central Jurisdiction for housing • Usage of Mumbai Port Trust land • Slum rehabilitation and redevelopment • Productive use of National Textile Corporation mill land • Recycle railway lands • Conservation of city waterfront MUMBAI MUST BE SAVED FROM ‘SLUMBAI’

  9. Transport • Central assistance in city’s public transport • Suburban rail travel improvement • 17 high speed road corridors • Santa Cruz and Sahar airports • Mumbai trans-harbour (Sewri-Nhava) link • East-west rail corridors • Mumbai metro TRANSPORT IS BRAKING MUMBAI’S PROGRESS

  10. Environment CLEAN MUMBAI, GREEN MUMBAI • Protection of forest land • Restoration and preservation of coastal front • Increase in CNG usage • Pollution control/emission standards • Environmental clearance

Governance • Centrally supported Mumbai Urban Development Fund • Freedom of Information Act • E-Governance • Elimination of political interference in administration and public sector units • Judicial reforms and swifter justice • Prevention of Corruption Act • Personal code of conduct of MPs • Personal example by MPs GOOD GOVERNANCE FOR MUMBAI
