  2. Debra Purcell-Regis Retired Teacher Debra Purcell-Regis is a retired teacher with over twenty-five years’ experience teaching English and American literature to high school students. Studies have shown that the main factor that determines the quality of education a child receives is the quality of his or her teacher. Teaching is one of the most complicated and demanding jobs today. Teachers need to have a broad understanding of the subject, curriculum, knowledge of discipline issues, and classroom management techniques.

  3. Debra Purcell-Regis Profession in Education Debra Purcell-Regis spent over twenty-five years teaching high school students in upstate New York. Here are a few characteristics of a great teacher:Great teachers set high expectations for their students and encourage them to achieve their goalsGreat teachers do not give up on underachievers in the classroomEffective teachers have clear, written-out lesson plans and objectives that give students a clear understanding of what they will learn in the course.

  4. Debra Purcell-Regis Support Education System Debra Purcell-Regis believes in and supports the no Child Left Behind law that came into force in 2002. As a teacher for over twenty-five years, she ensured that the students in her class received all the attention and care they can get. Under the law, No Child Left Behind, elementary school teachers need to have a bachelor’s degree and pass a tough core curriculum test. Middle and high school teachers are required to demonstrate competency in their subject area, which requires them to pass a test or complete an academic major, graduate degree, or have some other comparable course work.
