  3. SIXTH FORM WORK ETHIC • Students are here by choice. Our expectation is that they enjoy study and are highly motivated to work hard. • They are hitting the ground running. Students sit public examinations this year which carry university entrance points and which they will not be allowed to resit. • 6th Form is preparation for university or work. The work ethic skills that students will need at university or in the work place need to be developed in the Sixth Form.

  4. SIXTH FORM WORK ETHIC • Continuation in to Y13 is dependent on Y12 students achieving their target grades and having an excellent work ethic • Students are expected to achieve a) their minimum target grades, b) at least three AS Levels by the end of Y12

  5. SIXTH FORM WORK ETHIC • We will constantly monitor your child’s work ethic during Y12 • Their work ethic is measured in terms of: • Achieving the basics: Assessment deadlines met without fail, a minimum of 20 hours private study outside school each week (e.g. 3 hours per evening, 8 hours at the weekend)

SIXTH FORM WORK ETHIC • Their ability to work independently of teacher instruction, showing initiative, stretching themselves – join a library, purchase books • Their active contribution to the wider life of the school, including their ability to lead and inspire younger students in tutor time, and extra-curricular involvement

SIXTH FORM WORK ETHIC • Attendance – aim for 100% • Punctuality for school and for all lessons – aim for 100% • Achievement points – as many as possible • Behaviour points – zero • Their work ethic will be monitored by their teachers, by Subject Leaders, by their IAG Tutor and by their Personal Tutor

Responsibilities and Expectations • Achieve your potential - keep up-to-date with work, meeting all deadlines set • Attend full time • Be punctual • Be a leader within the student body of the School Community • Provide notes written by parents explaining any absence in addition to any telephone calls • Respect the Code of Conduct as it applies to the Sixth Form including Sixth Form dress code, internet safety, mobile phones and MP3 players

  9. The Wider Life of the Sixth Form • General Religious Studies (Mr Lewis) • General P.E (Mr Anderson) • Work Related Learning • Community Service • Public Speaking Opportunities • Fund Raising Opportunities • Prefect Duties / Student Council

  10. Personal Development & Well-Being(PDW) This takes place between 2:45 and 3:10 p.m. and is compulsory for all students. They take part in a programme of assemblies and form activities that will enrich and develop their spiritual, academic and personal potential.

  11. Independent Study THERE ARE NO FREE PERIODS IN THE SIXTH FORM

  12. UCAS • July 2012 -Research university and various Open Days and enrol in UCAS system • September 2012- complete UCAS form, including personal statement • September 2012 – Their reference is written

  13. UCAS • September 2012 – December 2012 – University Visits, Open Days and Interviews • January 2013 – Make final choices • May 2013 – Sit A2 examinations • August 2013 – Receive results

Other Important Dates • September 28th – Photographs • November 10th – Licence to Kill • November 30th – Meet the Senior Team • January 10th – AS examinations started • March 2012 – report cycle begins • March 29th – Parents Evening • April 24th HE Conference • May 14th – AS examinations start • June 26th – HE evening
