  2. Back ground • Commenced 19th March 2012 • Monday – Friday 8-5pm • VCNS aim to call back same day • Rota divided between 3 VCNS; • GB x 2 days • YH x 2 days • JT x 1day • Helpline open to all inquires.

  3. Message; Hello, this is the voice mail service for recently discharged patients from vascular surgery and vascular patients who require specialist nurse advice. This is a voice mail service and is listened to 3 times a day, Mon – Fri except bank holidays. However in an emergency please replace the handset immediately and dial 999, otherwise please leave a short message leaving your name and contact details and one of the vascular nurse team will aim to call you back today.

  5. Breakdown of calls • 50 Post Venous treatment advice • 23 post discharge advice (3 complaints averted) • 45 Admin • 25 General advice • 14 D/N • 10 No message left • 4 GP • 2 Community physiotherapist • 2 Nursing home • 2 Ward advice

  7. Outcome • Huge appreciation from patients and relatives with helpline No. (verbal) • The help line was not specifically used by patients who had just been discharged.

  8. Conclusion • 2 out of 3 VCNS found the service to be useful • Need to create improved RFA and UGFS patient information sheets. • Look at improving Admin support • Continue with helpline and re audit 12 months time.
