DEFINITION OF EDUCATION 1.Education is the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university: a course of education. 2.Education in its general sense is a form of learning in which the knowledge, skills, and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through teaching, training, or research. 3. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of others, but may also be autodidactic.

  3. THE ROLE OF PHILOSOPHY IN EDUCATION A philosophy of education represents answers to questions about the purpose of schooling, a teacher's role, and what should be taught and by what methods.

PHILOSOPHY IN EDUCATION • Behaviorist: Behavior modification. • Idealism-Realism: Values ideas and ideals. • Realism-Analytic: Scientific method. • Pragmatic-Progressive-Cognitive: Real world or practical. • Existentialism-Humanistic: Personal growth. • Reconstructionism-Radical: Social reform

  6. PHILOSOPHY OF IDEALISM 1.The idealists believe that material or physical universe is not complete expression of reality, the physical world is the manifestation of some great spirit behind it. While the physical and material world is destructible and changeable, the spirit behind it is indestructible and unchangeable. 2.It deals with questions like: what is reality? What is existence? Is the universe rationally designed or ultimately meaningless?

  7. PHILOSOPHY OF REALISM 1.In Realism, a person is an empty vessel for knowledge which can only come from outside of the self, through observation. 2.Realism believes in the world as it is. It is based on the view that reality is what we observe. It believes that truth is what we sense and observe and that goodness is found in the order of the laws of nature.

  8. IDEALISM AND REALISM • An idealist will seek the role of facilitator, guiding students towards truth. Students will be able to seek truth independently, thinking freely with the careful guidance of the teacher. • In Realism, The teacher and the learner have a role of passive and obedient listener

  9. IDEALISM AND REALISM • The teacher in idealism has to face the pupil and to engage him in the discussion in his/her selected topic. The student learns by the discussion. This method is known as debate or Socratic’s method. • In Realism, The learner in the realistic approach is a passive factor that has to follow the teacher what ever the teacher says • In Idealism the students is more active than realism. The pupil can take participation in the discussion and debates.

  10. God created man as caliph on earth. Human beings are creatures of God created with a variety of unique abilities and diverse. a good education is the education that is able to humanize humans, it must be able to cover the various aspects in Human life. Good education is education that can lead to the direction of human civilization and a better destination so that the earth will remain intact by human distinctiveness.
