The Springboard Charityhelps people of all ages and backgrounds improve their career potential in hospitality, leisure and tourism, especially adults who experience barriers to employment (e.g. formerly in prison or are returning to work), and young people in education. Springboard UK1promotes the industry as a great place to work and works with its Business Partners to proactively and imaginatively attract and retain talent Together, we help reduce unemployment and poverty across the UK; help young people achieve their potential; improve perceptions, and reduce the sector’s labour and skills shortages. 1 Springboard UK is the Charity's wholly owned trading subsidiary. It is not for profit and a company limited by guarantee

  4. 1 2 3 Mission Statements – The Springboard Charity • We provide specialist careers information, advice and guidance to inform and guide young people, adults and key influencers about the industry and facilitate quality work experience opportunities • Wehelp transform the lives of people who have barriers to work, and can benefit from our support, so that they can get sustained employment in hospitality, leisure and tourism, whatever their age or background We equip young people with personal, professional and career skills to prepare them for employment in hospitality, leisure & tourism • We do this through our specialist careers activities on-line, face to face & through careers events We do this through our first class education programmes in schools, colleges & universities • We do this by providing tailored support, quality programmes, dedicated aftercare and access to work experience placements and ultimately, sustainable employment

  5. 2 1 3 Mission Statements – Springboard UK We raise funds to support the work of The Springboard Charity, which in turn provides development opportunities for people in industry We promote hospitality, leisure & tourism as a great place to work, providing worthwhile careers We help our employer partners attract, develop, and retain talent We do this through our careers campaign activity, engaging with partner employers; trained mentors, Ambassador & Alumni network; and our strategic partnerships with Government, referral agencies, education and industry bodies We do this through our bespoke business partnership activities to help employers address HR priorities and deliver on CSR responsibilities – particularly related to education and community engagement We do this through our through our fundraising events & challenges, encouraging donations for people who wish to ‘give back’ and by securing income from other funders

Tourism Trails with Languages(Perth & Glasgow) INSPIRE (ensuring quality work placements) Hospitality/Tourism Takeover with Languages events (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stanley (P&K), Dumfries, Stirling, Aberdeen) NB Places in Red highlight where SCILT/CISS are already supporting these events. We are only adding five more events over the course of the year and these are just workshops. We do not have to provide venues, source speakers , organise schools , etc. Green highlights events taking place this year for he first time. Glasgow City College Takeover Day - June 17 Edinburgh College Takeover Day– June 18 Example Schools/Education Programmes

Feedback from Perth Tourism Trails • Pupils: • 96% of pupils rated the workshops either excellent or good • ·         90% of pupils said they now have a better understanding of why languages and communication matter in the world of work • Teachers: • 1. How would you rate the event? • 100 %Well worth attending

  9. 3. Overall how would you rate the Interactive workshops? 90 %Excellent- 10% Good • 2. As a result of attending the event, do you feel your pupils now have a better understanding of why languages and communication matter in the world of work? • 100% Yes

  10. Additional comments The interactive and practical sessions worked well with pupils, more breaks and earlier lunch. Interactive and practical workshops were better enjoyed and more valuable. Timings may need to be looked at as breaks were short. Fab interactive day for school children Really enjoyed the SCILT workshop in the civic hall. Showed a different way to learn languages and appreciate other cultures Pupils were great! Very friendly staff, well organised and thoroughly enjoyable
