  3. The Carbon Cycle • Energy from the sunlight is absorbed by plants (photosynthesis) • Plants converts the sun’s rays to food energy, or carbon dioxide • Plants release oxygen • Animals breathe in oxygen • Animals exhale carbon dioxide • Plants absorb carbon dioxide
