  4. A number of GI cooperation projects have been planned, but only few put to practice. Typically these initiatives are thought to be very close to the practical level but the goals of the cooperation or the coordinative organization are not very accurately defined. Typically these initiatives act without knowing about other GI projects acting in the same area, and the connections to the GI infrastructure, which is in building process, is not considered. Main findings

  5. Main findings Interest themes in regional GI cooperation according to the GI survey joint purchasing of GI data joint production of GI services education and courses in GI

  6. There is now a possibility to steer the regional GI cooperation to the direction where the ideas and preferred themes brought up in the survey report are considered. It is clear that a regional GI infrastructure for the SW Finland is needed for example to organize the local, practically oriented GI projects. Main findings

  7. Negotiations for a new 3-year contract have been started. Present background organizations: UTU and RCSF have already promised to continue the funding, the regional environment centre has expressed that they want to be in, but so far they have only promised work as a contribution. Broadening the regional GI cooperation

  8. Negotiations with the Turku School of Business and Economics, the Turku Polytehcnics, Sydväst Polytechnics, Åbo Akademi and City of Turku have also been started. So far the Sydväst has announced that they are most likely in with Lounaispaikka starting 2006. Sydväst is already involved with Lounaispaikka since the Arcipelago Map (now the thematic map) area includes now also the Ekenäs subregion. Broadening the regional GI cooperation

  9. The apprenticeship course on GI finally started in September. The course has 11 students and lasts until May 2006. Organized GI education

  10. The work in the national GI consultative committee continues and the subcommittees have representatives from Lounaispaikka For example the national metadata service will be enriched with a feature where data producer can add metadata description to the database. Most likely the Lounaispaikka metadata service could be connected to the national database this way. National-subnational cooperation
