  2. Monday Agenda • 9—930---Welcome Back/Introductions • 9:30-NOON---Get to know the neighbors! • 12:15-3:00---Procedures, Rules, CCSS, ISS, Evals, Meetings, Grades, E-1 Count • 3:00-4:00 FAC, AFT Tuesday work in your rooms

  3. Tuesday • Leadership Meeting • Math Department must attend PD at 12:30pm. Location to be determined.

  4. Construction Concerns • Any and all concerns or questions regarding MAPS or construction need to ONLY be addressed to the ADMIN team. PLEASE DO NOT voice these concerns to any construction personnel. DO NOT argue or engage in conflict with the workers—they are only workers doing their job. • They are all vendors---they don’t work for us.

  5. Evaluation At Jackson • We will still use the TAS observation tool this year—2012-2013 • All staff members will participate in a Pre-Conference. • All reports including the posting of grades will be prior to /or on deadline. They will not be late. • Marzano program will be a pilot this year.

  6. More Evaluation Info • Eval procedures have not changed. • Piloting Marzano means we will training and practicing this year. • Teacher feedback and questions are vital to the success of the program. • Goal is to focus on individual teacher growth, ultimately resulting in increased student achievement.

  7. CCSS • Common Core State Standards • WE ARE ALL READING AND WRITING TEACHERS THIS YEAR! • Teach Bell to Bell • Engage students often • Make them THINK!!!!!!

  8. TESTING---ALL CAPS • TESTING IS IMPORTANT TO ALL OF US • WE ARE ALL IN CHARGE OF TESTING • THE BENCHMARK TESTING SCHEDULE IS THE SAME AS OCCT • WE WILL ALL BE FLEXIBLE TO ENSURE TESTING IS PERFECT • EVERY TIME WE TEST IT IS PRACTICE FOR APRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS WORKS OUT THE BUGS FOR APRIL

  9. Student Handbook • The handbook has been completely changed, and updated. • Several new forms---we will make every effort to get extra books for all of you. They only gave us a SPECIFIC number of books for the kids. We WILL get more!

  10. Referral Forms • Two referral forms will be used this year. • One is for DOCUMENTATION of a problem in the classroom—minor offenses handled by team or teacher. • Two is for more serious infractions that may result in an ISS or Suspension. With the exception of Flagrant infractions, we need the team to meet with the student and parent before referral is worked.

  11. PARENT CONTACT • No student can be out of school suspended without TALKING with a parent. This is a non-negotiable. There is no getting around this. If a parent cannot be reached, the child will go to ISS. • PLEASE CALL PARENTS before a suspension is needed.

  12. Instructional Activities • Please plan activities that will run as close to BELL to BELL. • Students (human beings) want structure in their lives. • Increase Reading and Writing in all classes. • NO MOVIES will be approved unless able to correlate with standards.—Use a clip, not the whole film.

  13. ISS • For minor classroom disruptions a teacher can fill out an ISS referral. • The student will sign a copy and receive a copy. They can go immediately to ISS for the REMAINDER of the class.

  14. ISS • If a student has gone 3 or more times in a week or has been assigned ISS 3 or more times in a day or if the student has become a continuous student in ISS. The ISS teacher will refuse to accept the student until a Team meeting is held with student and parent (if possible).

  15. ISS • If ISS is full the ISS teacher will send a email to all staff letting them know that ISS is full for the day. • ISS teacher will keep a log of all students that enter ISS, Why, and What teacher sent them to ISS. • At the end of the day ISS teacher will send a list of students and the duration of ISS left for them to complete.

  16. THE FOUNDATION • TEACHERS WAREHOUSE---USE IT! • Team captain needs to volunteer or be chosen • Great Idea grants—apply • Support the Foundation • Questions--

  17. Saturday School • A teacher can assign Saturday School. • A student can attend Saturday School for only one teacher unless both teachers agree. • The teacher WILL have the student sign a copy of a Saturday School Referral AND will attempt contact with parent prior to the day. Students need at least 24 hours notice. • The teacher will need to keep Saturday School referral in Team folder.

  18. Saturday School • On Monday the list of students who attended Saturday school and the teachers that assigned them. • It is the teachers responsibility to check the list and verify that the student reported for the teacher. • If the student did not report to Saturday School a referral for “failure to attend Saturday School” can be written.

  19. Saturday School • The Saturday School referral can result in 1 day out of school suspension or any consequence that the Discipline Matrix and Administrator deicide is correct.

  20. Dress Code • Each grade will have a choice of two colors of shirt. • All grades can ONLY wear tan khakis. • 6th grade T-Shirt in either yellow/or goldenrod. Any color Jackson Middle School shirt on Friday.

  21. Dress Code • 7th grade T-Shirt in either navy blue/or Royal Blue. Any color Jackson Middle School shirt on Friday. • 8th grade T-Shirt in either light grey/ or dark grey. Any color Jackson Middle School shirt on Friday.

  22. Dress Code • No article of clothing shall be worn if deemed it has gang affiliation. • Shoes may not be a color or pattern that has been deemed gang related. • Jackets/ hoodies must be the color of the dress code for the grade OR must be unzipped. • All district policies shall be enforced.

  23. Cell Phone • During morning scanning if a student is carrying a cell phone they need to show it to the scanning personnel. • Scanning personnel will make sure the phone is off and no prohibited contraband is present on the phone.(emblems of playboy, marijuana, etc…)

  24. Cell Phone • If the phone is seen or heard by any staff member the phone is to be confiscated by the staff member. • The staff member will label the phone with students first and last name. • The staff member will take the phone to main office and drop it in drop box along with filling in drop box sign in sheet.

  25. Cell Phone • All staff members have the responsibility of enforcing the rules of Jackson

  26. Dredge • Any teachers in need of furniture may go with us to Dredge to tag furniture they need for their rooms.

  27. Meeting Schedule • All meetings Leadership, and Department meetings will be on Monday. • Currently the schedule is as follows: • 8:30-9:10 Leadership Meeting • 9:20-10:10 Science Department and LA- RU • 10:15-11:00 Social Studies Department • 12:30-1:15 LA Department • 1:30-2:05 Math Department • 3:50-4:20 Faculty Meeting

  28. Meeting Schedule • ELL and SPED will meet on Tuesday • Currently the schedule is as follows: • 10:10-10:55 ELL Department • 12:40-1:25 Special Ed Department • ALL calendar items will be posted on Portal and on the 2 month calendar in the Main Office.
