  2. What is AVID? • AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college readiness program designed to help students reach their goal of attending college. This program accelerates student learning by effectively motivating students and giving them the tools and strategies to stay focused on their future college plan. • This year we will be working on practices such as study skills, test taking tips, new ways of taking notes, organization, and researching different colleges as well as careers for our future.

  3. Expectations • Stay organized • Keep up with your work • Good behavior • Keep all of your notes • Cornell Notes • Helpful way to study • Responsible and respectful

  4. Typical AVID Student • First generation college student • Intelligent…Middle to high grades • Motivated • Student with the desire to attend college and be successful

  5. AVID Teacher • Ms. Bok • Miami University (Ohio) • Certified to teach Mathematics and Language Arts in grades 4-9.  • Can always come to her • Makes an AVID family with close bonds • Can help with school or personal problems

  6. Tutorials • Study session with classmates • Go over any questions in your classes • Help students learn….Helps you learn • You don’t just tell the answers, you work together to solve the problems. • Very helpful!!! 

  7. Binders • Start the year with Binder Checks • Dividers for every class • Pencil Pouch • Agenda • Then move to Binder Quizzes • Easy 100% if you keep your things • Questions from all classes • Possibly in regular Core Classes also
