  1. Cooking CommunitiesApril 2008 The Cooking Communities Project has successfully secured funding from Asda to provide ingredients for the cooking sessions and for the participants to take home to recreate the dishes for their families. The DfES Licence to Cook Programme has welcomed a partnership with Cooking Communities and the after school clubs will assist schools in meeting the Licence to Cook requirements. Teachers from each of the three pilot schools have been recruited to run the after school cooking club. Dates are now being set for the pre-club training and for workshops with children to ensure they have an input into the development of the 10 week programme. Log book activities will also be agreed with the participating children. We have met and discussed the programme with various leaders from the Neighbourhood Network Scheme who are assisting with the recruitment of the Cooking Champions. The Cooking Champions will be given an introduction to the schools, the teachers and the Cooking Communities programme before the clubs begin in September. Training such as basic hygiene will also be provided. We will be holding a conference at Leeds Trinity and All Saints on Friday the 20th of June to provide an update on our progress and to hear from other regional and national food, cooking and growing programmes. Next stage: Recruitment of Cooking Champions and young people from the pilot schools, identifying training needs and interests. Workshops in schools with children to discuss recipe preferences and log book activities Training sessions in schools with Teachers and Cooking Champions Summer Conference: Friday 20th June.
