Merit Scholarships Description • UMass Lowell offers a variety of scholarships to: • Our most academically qualified incoming transfers who demonstrate an exceptional level of achievement measured by outstanding performance in their previous college/university • Note: Most scholarships do not require an application

  4. Scholarship Criteria • The In-State UML Transfer Scholarship is awarded to in-state residents based on a multiple tier award criteria • Criteria based on specific GPA requirement from their last attended institution and • Must have at least 24 transferable credits • There is a limited number of awards available therefore it is first come first served • For Proximity, Out of State and International students, there are specific GPA requirement from their last attended institution and students must have at least 15 transferable credits • Decision based on when we receive the students final transcript from their previous institution • For specific details see website (http://www.uml.edu/FinancialAid/scholarships/Transfers.aspx)

  5. Merit Scholarship Selection Process • When applying to UMass Lowell, all prospective transfer students are considered for an academic scholarship as part of the admissions process • In March, the Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships begins receiving reports of students who qualify based on their GPA and total transferable credits • Students are identified using the award information made available in an initial report from the admissions office • Students are sent their scholarship award letter from the Financial Aid Office • Transfer letters do not come from the Admissions Office and are not mailed with the acceptance packets

  6. NavitasProgram Students • The Navitas Program provides international students a path to successfully complete their degree at UML. The initial pathways program is offered in a 3-semester 'standard' format, which is equivalent to the first year of a UMass Lowell Bachelor's degree program. • Student in the pathway program are not considered UML students • After successfully completing the Pathway Program, the student is accepted as a transfer student into a UML degree program • Students from Navitas who transfer into a UML degree program receive a $3,000 International Scholars Award • Scholarship award letters are sent from the Financial Aid Office

  7. Maintaining Eligibility • Residency Status: • If students change residency or change careers to DOCE, the transfer scholarship will be cancelled

  8. Renewal Criteria • Academic scholarships are renewable at a maximum of four award years (eight semesters), some transfer scholarship are only offered for 4 semesters • Each individual scholarship has a criteria requirement that needs to be met in order to be renewed. See our website: http://www.uml.edu/FinancialAid/scholarships/default.aspx • If a student fails to meet the renewable criteria, they will lose the academic scholarships permanently • If an academic scholarship is lost, it is advised that the student meet with the Senior Associate Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships to discuss appeal
