E-mail Hardware • Fully migrated E-mail servers from CLARiiON to DMX SAN frames • All E-mail servers are now back in service: • 6 client/server • 1 premium/interactive • 1 client/server (Morris)
X.500 Directory Hardware • Completing upgrade of front-end X.500 servers from 6 Netra X1 to 3 V440s in next week or two • Received hardware for future back-end directory servers (4 V210s)
Spam/Virus Filtering • SMTP server now treats temporary DNS errors as “Host not found” after 24 hours, for up to 7 days • Subscribed to Spamhaus SBL/XBL rsync feed, allowing for localized queries
Departmental MTA Registration • MTAs and other devices which are using the relay.tc.umn.edu service must register to guarantee uninterrupted service • Send IP address, type of device, and contact information to isgroup@umn.edu • Includes the relay-by-IP service (currently 160.94.160.49) • As of 4/13, 55 IP addresses have been registered by 15 different departments
Phase-out of clear-text passwords • Next general mailings will be sent out over the next few weeks • Last FTP mailing went out Jan 26th and is expected to go out again in late May or early June
Weak Internet Passwords • Letters continue to go out to users with weak passwords • Currently only going out to users who have not changed passwords since Jan. 15
MMP Evaluation • Will be upgrading to MMP during Summer 2005 • Obsoletes current MTA product (Mail*Hub 2000) • Obsoletes current X.500 directory product (GDS 2003)
Lyris • Full production effective March 17th • Lyris upgraded to version 8.1, fixing a problem with large mailings hanging
