  1. Studies on the Correlation between Network Technology-Aided Data-Driven Learning and Vocabulary Autonomy Learning LU Yanhui Hunan Normal University lu_yanhui2003@yahoo.com.cn

  2. Introduction • Data-driven learning (Johns, 1991; Johns and King, 1991; etc.) is used to provide students with access to a large quantity of authentic and contextualized data, which may account for the lack of sufficient exposure to the target language in different contexts.

  3. Why is the new teaching model necessary? Different from English learning in the middle school, College English Teaching (CET) should focus on how to develop students’ ability to use English in an all-round way and to enhance their abilities to study independently.

  4. College English Curriculum Requirements suggests the new model should be built on modern information technology, particular network technology, so that English language teaching will free from the constraints of time or place and geared toward students’ individualized and autonomous learning.

  5. DDL model: • DDL is hypothesized to improve general skills of using context to deduce meaning..DDL involves setting up situations in which students can answer questions about language themselves by studying corpus data in the form of concordance lines or sentences.

  6. Aims of the study: • to make a theoretical exploration on the validity of the application of this new model in our English teaching.

  7. Research Question • Are there any significant differences between the traditional teaching method and the DDL model.

  8. Hypotheses • the new model would help raise awareness of autonomous learning at university level by using corpora and relevant retrieval tools.

  9. Methodology 1.We have made some investigations on students’ responses to the DDL model. The questions mainly involve two aspects: learners’ attitudes toward the new teaching notion and learners’ strategies. 2. Evaluation

  10. Data analysis • All the data are handled by using SPSS software tools.

  11. Conclusions • 1. the web-based DDL model is superior to traditional teaching model. It can help students to be independent language learners and help to arouse their interests and improve their self-access leaning ability, which finally improve their learning.

  12. DDL stimulates enquiry and speculation of learners and helps to develop their abilities to see patterning in the target language and form generalizations to account for that patterning.

  13. Great challenges still exist.

  14. Thanks!
