Purpose • Develop a written plan and proof of concept for the implementation of geospatial web services in the Forest Service. • Enhance the ability of the Forest Service to leverage web based mapping and data delivery services for internal and external customers. • Describe the components required to publish standard map layers. • Enable local units to publish project level data as web map services.

  3. Objectives • Develop technical processes and best practices for implementation of web mapping in the FS. • Provide guidance to users and developers on the use of internet mapping and templates for web pages and map publication.

  4. Objectives • Document Forest Service policies relating to the publication of web sites and maps. • Suggest changes to Forest Service policies to reduce barriers to the development of web-based mapping applications while promoting consistency where appropriate.

  5. Objectives • Research and document the need to publish map data locally and regionally by forests, labs and research centers. • Recommend strategies to increase data availability through the use of web mapping technology.
