La franja táctil de guía debe dirigir a los invidentes, a lo largo de una ruta, andén o plaza cuando no se tienen las guías usuales para ellos como el borde de las edificaciones o del andén; y alrededor de los obstáculos, mobiliario urbano, etc. Los invidentes la usan como guía (detectada con el bastón) o como ruta (caminando sobre ella).
