A protest art project highlighting luxury housing next to lower-income homes, focused on wasteful construction and environmental concerns. Features recognizable characters like Christ and Smokey the Bear in minimalist black-and-white designs. Targeting those open to change, including voters, city council, and contractors. Raises risks of police presence, conflicts in art style, and balancing perfectionism.

Robert Schwartz Concept Pitch
Area Observations • Luxury housing located across the street from lower income apartments, duplexes • Park, creek, forest destroyed for housing development. Pollution abounds. • Representative of many similar projects throughout Fairfax city/county.
Area Observations Continued • Housing complex on Main Street, constant traffic in cars and on foot • New housing very close to lower income residences • Within walking distance of local courthouse/police station
Project Specifics • Primarily in protest of wasteful construction (more expensive housing) • Environmental issues secondary(prefer natural environment to high income housing, especially given its location)
Content of Design • Juxtaposition (in this case, of Christ with Smokey the Bear) • Easily identifiable characters • Easily digestible message, doesn’t require much time to read or understand • Minimal text; one word at most.
Content of Design Continued • Greyscaleor black and white; minimal color • Minimalist design in final product • “Short and sweet” message communicated as efficiently as possible
Target Audience • Anyone who will listen • Preferably those willing to make a change; voters, city council members, contractors, housing developers, etc. • Anyone who will get mad about it
Risk Analysis • Proximity to police in installation • Conflict between painting/greyscale • Current work feels “too busy” • Perfectionism
