-Blaise Pascal built the Pascaline in 1642, which was the first mechanical calculator ever made.

-Early mechanical calculators could only add and subtract.

-A difference engine is an automaticmechanical calculator designed to tabulate polynomial functions

-Colossus was the world's first electronic,digital, fixed-program, single-purpose computer with variable coefficients

-ENIAC stands for Electrical Numerical Integrator and Calculator

-The ENIAC was developed in the army, because they needed a computer for calculating artillery firing tables

-The Altair computer appealed to individuals and businesses that just wanted a computer

-Colleges had required science and engineering majors to take a course in computer programming, typically using the basic languages.

-First computer cost around $439.00. It included everything in kit. The MITS designers wanted the computer to appeal more to hobbyists

-The Alto Computer was the first networked personal computer
