How can you help? • Ask your child… • what s/he is reading about in class • for more than the plot—ask for opinions and for things from the text (evidence) that will back up his/her opinions • what s/he is supposed to be doing with the text • Where is the class going? • Are there any focus questions? • Literary terms to look for?

  9. How can you help? • Read your child’s writing • Do you understand what s/he is writing about? • If it’s persuasive or argumentative, do you understand what his/her position is? • Do you understand what at least part of the story is about? • Does it make sense?

Overall Top Tips? • Know your child’s schedule—and make sure s/he knows it, too • Know your child’s homework requirements • Most difficult part of the course is learning how to juggle • The importance of turn-in dates • Help your child schedule and with time-management • We don’t want all-nighters! • Talk with your child on a regular basis • Keep in contact with me if you have any concerns.

  18. A Note on Absences • In order to pass high school honors courses students may not have more than 10 absences. Any absence past the initial 10 must be documented as medical.
