  1. Requiring Breathalyzers in Cars Jerra Nash Cornerstone 2012-2013

  2. Introduction • Video: • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S56gKDPBIyI • Every 40 minutes someone in America is killed by an alcohol-impaired driver.

  3. Need • Anniston Star wrote that, “An ignition interlock prevents a driver from starting the vehicle until the driver has registered a blood-alcohol content of .02 or lower” (Steele, 8 September 2012). • Approximately one drink

  4. Satisfaction • “Some 47 states currently have in-car breathalyzer laws where a driver convicted of DUI or DWI may be forced to install an "interlock" device” (Howie, 14 Feb. 2010). • However, I fell why should we have to wait into the offender has offended and got caught to do this.

  5. Visualization • In 2040 the amount of drunken drivers will go down because of the implantation of breathalyzers. • “Advocates of a new standard for in-car breathalyzers say that most, if not all, of those accidents could have been avoided if the drunk driver hadn't been able to turn his or her car on” (Howie, 14 Feb. 2010).

  6. Action • I’m informing you with all this information in hope that you will consider the idea of instilling breathalyzers in vehicles to save a life. • The life you might end up save could be your own.

  7. Preventing Blowing Over • Start the night with a non-alcoholic beverage. • Eat before you start drinking. • Drink water between alcoholic beverages. • Stick to the same type of drink. • On pre-mixed beverages check the label. • Do not let people top up your drink (Blackburn, 18 Dec. 2009).
