The CIR-CE-approach: combination of „clustered systems“ • Austria – from periphery to center • On the route to Lisbon and Barcelona: Research, technology and innovation as driving forces of a sustainable growth process • Centers of growth: „clustered systems“ • Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe – actual growth and longterm perspective: sustainability = technology orientation • combination = axes of growth • The necessity for individual solutions due to heterogenity • Research and Innovation Region Central/East/Southeastern Europea as an important element of the ERA

The CIR-CE-Win-Win-Situation • Optimized combination of Know-How- and factor cost compontents in the internationalised production chain = better common position in the world market • Complementarisation of research/testing/technolocy capacities (non-duplication) • Newly emerging „growth poles“ need stimulative external inputs • Participation in the rapid growth of central/eastern/ southeastern European „growth poles“ • Market aspects • particular chances for SME-sector due to geographic proximity
