  1. My Cheese Experiment By: Kristin Ewing

  2. Big question • My big question is will American or Swiss cheese will mold faster? I want to know this because of I think it would be cool to see if American cheese will last longer or shorter than the Swiss cheese would.

  3. Hypothesis • My hypothesis is that the American cheese will mold faster than the Swiss cheese. I think this because the American cheese has more moister than the American does. American also has no holes in it like Swiss cheese does.

  4. Interesting facts • 1.place the cheese where no pets will harm it • 2.make sure bags are sealed completely • 3. don’t take cheese out of bags • 4.do not touch without gloves • 5.dont touch the bags while in the process of the experiment • 6.write down all information

  5. Materials • American cheese (square shaped) • Swiss cheese (square shaped) • 2 sandwich bags • Notebook • Pen or pencil

  6. Step by step instructions • Step 1.Put both American and Swiss cheese into two separate sandwich bags. • Step 2.Place both bags on a smooth surface where it won’t be disturbed or harmed. • Step 3. report any observations you see over the next week to see if American/Swiss cheese have molded. • Step 4. Lastly in your notebook put down which cheese has molded the most in one week.

  7. Control Variables • Bags cheese

  8. Observations for Swiss cheese • Day one-is getting moist in bag has changed to a different color yellow • Day 2-edges are getting soft. Looking very greasy. Thin and getting darker. • Day 3- nothing • Day 4-turning green • Day 5- the green is spreading • Day 6- nothing • Day seven almost black

  9. Observations for American cheese • Day 1-slightly getting moist • Day 2-moist • Day 3- nothing • Day 4-nothing • Day 5- moist • Day 6- nothing • Day 7- nothing

  10. Data

  11. Analysis of data • My experiment did test my hypothesis. It tested my hypothesis by the Swiss doing more than the American cheese. What I would change in this experiment would be that I would put the American cheese in a container without the lid.

  12. Conclusion • My hypothesis was wrong. The Swiss cheese molded first. • Some questions I have are- why didn’t the American cheese mold? Why wouldn’t the American cheese mold? Why did the Swiss cheese mold faster than the American cheese?
