  2. 1) friction • A force that opposes the motion of an object

  3. 2)Gravity • A force of attraction between objects

  4. 3) work • Application of a force to an object to move it a certain distance in the direction of the force

  5. 4) machine • A device that makes work easier by changing the size or direction of a force

  6. 5) Inclined plane • A simple machine consisting of a straight, slanted surface

  7. 6) wedge • A simple machine made up of an inclined plane that is wider or thicker at one end than at the other and is moved when in use.

  8. 7) screw • A simple machine made up of an inclined plane that is wrapped around a cylinder

  9. 8) lever • A simple machine made up of a bar that pivots at a fixed point called a fulcrum

  10. 9) pulley • A simple machine made up of a rope or chain wrapped around a wheel; a load is attached to one end of the rope

  11. 10) Wheel and axle • A simple machine that consists of two circular objects of different sizes
