WhatisBullying?  Nostudentorgroupofstudentsshall,throughphysical, written,verbal,orothermeans,harass,sexuallyharass, threaten,intimidate,cyberbully,causebodilyinjuryto, orcommithateviolenceagainstanyotherstudentor schoolpersonnel. Cyberbullyingincludesthetransmissionofharassing communications,directthreats,orotherharmfultexts, sounds,orimagesontheInternet,socialmedia,or other technologiesusingatelephone,computer,orany wirelesscommunicationdevice.Cyberbullyingalso includesbreakingintoanotherperson’selectronic accountandassumingthatperson’sidentityinorderto damagethatperson’sreputation. 

DUSDPolicy • DUSDisawareoftheseriousnessofbullyingandin compliancewithSeth’sLawDUSDpolicyspecificallyprohibitsdiscrimination,harassment,intimidation,andbullyingbasedontheseactualorperceivedcharacteristics:disability,gender, genderidentity,genderexpression,nationality, raceorethnicity,religion,andsexualorientation. • Discrimination,harassment,intimidationor bullyingdirectedatsomeoneassociatedwitha personorgroupwithoneormoreofthelisted actualorperceivedcharacteristicsisalso prohibited(EducationCodeSection234.11(a))

  4. Seth’s Law • “Seth’sLaw”is a newlaw thatstrengthens existing stateanti-bullyinglawstohelp protect all Californiapublic schoolstudents. Seth’sLaw requires public schoolsinCaliforniato update theiranti-bullyingpoliciesandprograms,andit focusesonprotecting studentswhoare bullied basedon their actualor perceivedsexual orientationand genderidentity/gender expression, as well as race,ethnicity,nationality, gender,disability and religion.
