  1. Tobacco Research Highlights Scope Of Use And Related Costs There has always been a lot of controversy surrounding smoking and tobacco use. However, one thing is certain. It is not something that is going to disappear shortly. It is estimated that as much as a quarter of the global population uses tobacco and tobacco products and just under 20% smoke cigarettes regularly. Smoking also starts at a very young age and it is estimated that a large percentage of teenagers between the ages of 12 and 18 use tobacco products or smoke occasionally. Smoking is also something that, although it decreases in popularity year on year, will continue to stick around as more people are coming of age or entering their teens every year and, therefore, attempting smoking or the use of tobacco products for the first time. Some of these people will remain tobacco users for the rest of their lives while others will only use it on occasion and still, others will stop the consumption entirely after only a few tries or a couple of years. Research conducted in 2021 estimates that there are approximately 1,3 million tobacco users globally and that about 80% of these users are living in low- or middle-income countries. Whereas tobacco use has been linked to the lower- and middle-income classes and countries, smoking is also more prevalent among the vulnerable people of the world. It is estimated that approximately a quarter of Americans that suffer from some sort of mental disorder, this includes addiction, are responsible for about 40% of all the cigarettes that are smoked in the United States of America. Although it may seem like an unlikely statistic, young people are among the lowest percentage of smokers. Ordinarily, young people tend to prefer e-cigarettes over the use of traditional cigarettes if they are among tobacco users. This is likely because the e-liquid for e-cigarettes comes in a variety of flavors, which means that they are more likely to be appealing to the youth of today. E-cigarettes also have the added benefit for the youth of producing a large cloud of vapor, which looks like a billowing cloud of smoke, which is impressive and affords the smoker the ability to perform smoking tricks. This is largely why it is believed that e-cigarettes are so popular with the youth. Of course, smoking has been linked to several diseases and the fact of the matter is that smoking kills almost half of the people that engage in this activity. Although the research has been done and the statistics have been published, smoking continues to be a popular pastime. Regardless of the number of deaths that can be attributed to smoking and tobacco use, the economic impact of tobacco use is also substantial. It is estimated that from 2009 to 2012, the societal costs that could be attributed to smoking and tobacco use in the United States of

  2. America were $289 — $332,5 billion. This includes expenditures such as direct medical care and the loss of productivity due to premature or unexpected death. The estimated costs related to smoking and tobacco use are tremendous and approximately 70% of the related societal costs can be avoided if smokers or tobacco users were to quit. However, smoking and tobacco use is not going away anytime soon and the best that can be done is for qualified entities to do the necessary research and publish statistics to ensure that the producers and manufacturers of tobacco products are in line with the national standards and keeping with the necessary regulations and health and safety guidelines. More research on tobacco products and the use of tobacco will lead to a better understanding and a safer future. About Us:CSUR opened in 1994 linked initially to the University of Glasgow where its foundational director held the post of Professor of Substance Use Research. In 2011 CSUR became a wholly independent research centre focusing on a wider range of substance use issues and developing a large program of behaviourally focused regulatory science research assessing the contribution of ENDS in reducing tobacco-related health harm. The research team within CSUR has experience in working alongside regulatory authorities including the FDA to ensure that the studies executed can meet the needs of regulatory and public health bodies. CSUR as an organization is focussed on furthering the goals of tobacco-related harm reduction and assessing the public health impact of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems. The goal of CSUR’s staff is to ensure that those working within these industries have access to high-quality behavioural research that can further theirs owns goals of reducing the harms associated with the use of combustible tobacco products.
